1. Open PowerPoint and go to the slide where you want to insert the video. (Note: If your slide has
the words "Click to Add Title" then you can clear that by clicking the "Home" tab at the top and
then click "Layout" and choose the "Blank" type slide to set-up your canvas work area to start
new).
2. Click on the "Insert" tab at the top.
3. Click on the "Video" dropdown menu.
4. In the dropdown menu, select the place where your video is located such as "Video on My PC"
or "On this Device" or "Online Video".
5. If the video is on your computer, a window will open that allows you to point and click which
folder the video is in and then when you see the correct video, simply click on it and then click
the "Insert" button. If you chose "Online Video", enter the URL or embed code for the video,
and then click "Insert".
6. Once inserted, you can resize by hovering your mouse over the corners or middle of the side
edges until it gives a double-headed arrow. Then being careful to be still, simply press and hold
down the left mouse button on the edge markers and then move your hand and mouse the
direction you want to resize (usually to cover the entire canvas work area) and you can also
reposition the video as needed by hovering the middle of the video and then clicking and
holding down the left mouse button while dragging the entire video where you want.
7. Anytime you insert a video make it a habit to immediately set it to play "automatically" and
"looped" in the "Playback" tab that appears at the top when the video is clicked on. You will also
see many other functions available like "Trim" and "Fade in" to edit the video how you wish, but
get the habit of next clicking on the "Animation" tab and changing the "Start" command to
"With Previous" to assure the video works correctly every time (This will save you a lot of
headaches if you form this habit whenever you insert a video).
8. Click on the "Animation Pane" and you will notice when you click on the video there will be 2
highlighted animations in the pane. Click on only the top one and ALWAYS drag and drop it to
the top if there are other animated objects there. Doing these steps prevent about 90% of any
possible problem with video.
